Mission to Seafarers

Mission_to_Seafarers

The first settlement within our parish bounds goes back to 1604 when sailors arrived and stayed due to the fertile fishing grounds. Since then this area has risen and fallen with the fisheries and with that tide many husbands, fathers, sons, wives, and daughters have lost their life to the sea.

We know the hardships of a life that depends on the sea to make a living and we view the work of the Mission to Seafarers as an important outreach to those who travel on the oceans. The Mission to Seafarers is a ministry that we contribute to monthly and help however and whenever we can.

For more information on the local (Nova Scotia) mission see the Halifax Mission to Seafarers website.

O ALMIGHTY God, who hast made the sea, and all that move therein: Bestow thy blessing on the harvest of the waters, that it may be abundant in its season, and on our sailors and fishermen, that they may be safe in every peril of the deep; so that we all with thankful hearts may acknowledge thee, who art Lord of the sea and of the dry land; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
